”God, thou great symmetry,
who put a biting lust in me
  from Whence my sorrows spring,

  for all the frittered

days that I have spent in shape-
less ways give me one perfect
  thing.”

  From the poem ”Envoi”
 in ”The contemplative quarry.”
 by Anna Wickham. 1921.

                                                                                                                    SYMMETRY

Symmetry brings beauty to nature, art, architecture and everyday life and is an important subject in geometry, here represented with a wall tiling of a quadrilateral. A randomly chosen quadrilateral is roatated 180 degrees around each of the midpoints of its edges. When repeating this rotation a nice wall tiling is produced. Mathematically this can be represented by saying that all quadrilaterals tesselate.

The picture above shows the steps in the roation process producing the tiling, and is made by the multirepresentational dynamic software
GeoGebra.

The app which can be used within GeoGebra or as an online app, can be bought from Stabelvollen media and freely be used privately only.  Purcahse the app in SHOP, and the app can be downloaded online.
